GEM convened its Annual Board of Directors Meeting on Friday, August 3, 2012 in San Francisco, CA. A summary of the motions presented on the floor are as follows:

2012 Board of Directors Motion Results

  • 2011 BOD Minutes—PASSED
  • 2012-2013 Annual Budget—PASSED
  • Official transcripts not required until selected for confirmation beginning the 2012–2013 application cycle.—PASSED
  • Add requirement for all GEM applicants to apply to a minimum of 3 GEM Member Universities by January 15th or the STEM departments posted deadline whichever is earlier—PASSED
  • Pilot the development of a GEM University Named Scholar program in the 2012-2013 cycle.—PASSED
  • Increase the GEM University Membership fee to $2,500 beginning the 2013-2014 fiscal year—PASSED
  • A GEM University Member can petition to lower their fee to $1,000 for the year in which they hosted a GEM GRAD Lab.—PASSED
  • 2012-2013 Executive Committee Slate—approved
  • Bylaw Amendments—language added to create a standalone Audit Committee—PASSED
