Nuts and Bolts of Selecting and Naming GEM Associate and University Fellows

Abstract

GEM has successfully piloted the naming of other classes of GEM Fellows where industry support is not secured.  These new GEM Fellows classifications are:  • GEM Associate Fellows, where the university provides tuition and stipend • GEM University Fellows, where the university provides tuition only. We will discuss these naming opportunities and hear about the nuts and bolts of selecting and funding the GEM Associate and University Fellows.


Presenter Bio

Dr. John “Jack” Lesko is a Professor of Engineering Mechanics at Virginia Tech, currently serving as the Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Studies and the GEM Executive Committee as the VP for Strategy & Policy – representing the universities.  His work towards broadening participation have included the piloting of the GEM Associate & University Fellows Program as well as developing community and programming that promote persistence to degree.
