Ariel Ash-Shakoor is a PhD student with a passion for biomaterials science and outreach. She graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering. After graduating, she completed a research project on drug coated balloons as an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education fellow at the Food and Drug Administration. Currently. Ariel is a National Science Foundation graduate research fellow and an integrative graduate education and research traineeship associate fellow at Syracuse University. Overall, her research interests are in the fields of materials science, cell biology, and mechanobiology. She is also interested in STEM education reform and created a STEM tutoring program at the Syracuse Northeast Community center.
