Frank Schimmoller serves as Executive Staff in the Office of the Director of MIT Lincoln Laboratory and is responsible for the management of staffing and funding activities for a significant portion of the Laboratory’s research program portfolio. He serves as Laboratory liaison to research sponsor agencies and serves as subject matter expert for Laboratory matters of contract, governance, finance, administration and oversight.
Mr. Schimmoller joined MIT Lincoln Laboratory in 1992 and has served in various financial and administrative capacities. Frank was Chief Financial Officer from 1996 to 2000 and managed the transition of the Laboratory’s financial and administrative systems to SAP®. In 2000, he was promoted to Director of Administrative Operations where he served until 2007 with responsibility for all financial and administrative operations of the Laboratory.
Mr. Schimmoller served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966 as an airborne intelligence crew member.
In 1968 he joined Berkley Scientific Laboratories as Regional Field Service Manager with responsibility for installation and service of the company’s laboratory data acquisition systems in 17 eastern states.
In 1970, Mr. Schimmoller joined MetPath Inc. (now Quest Diagnostics), a clinical laboratory company, as Systems Manager. From 1970 to 1987 he advanced through several positions of increasing responsibility in areas of information technology, systems engineering, facilities design, real estate, finance and administration. As Vice President, Facilities and Real Estate, he was responsible for the design and construction of over one million square feet of high technology laboratory space and managed a real estate portfolio of over 250 corporate facilities. He holds U.S. and foreign patents for a unique modular laboratory furniture system designed for use in MetPath’s laboratories. This effort resulted in a spin-off company, Labmarc, Inc., which was formed to market the laboratory system in the U.S. and Europe.
As Vice President of Administration at MetPath, his responsibilities increased to include Human Resources, Procurement, Materials, Warehousing, Distribution, Facilities, Clinical Engineering, Security, Safety and Fleet Management.
In 1985, Mr. Schimmoller was named Vice President & Director of Quality Management for MetPath, responsible for implementing the Total Quality Management (TQM) process throughout the MetPath organization of over 3,000 employees and 270 locations. He served on the Quality Council of Corning, Inc., and advised its management and directors on matters relating to Total Quality Management.
In 1987, Mr. Schimmoller was named Vice President and General Manager of Labmarc, Inc., where he served as Chief Operating Officer for the start up company until joining MIT Lincoln Laboratory.
Mr. Schimmoller holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from Columbia University. He resides in Sudbury, MA with his wife Kathy. Frank is an active community volunteer, having served on Sudbury’s Permanent Buildings Committee and Designer Selection Board since 1987. He is active as an adult volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years.
