Dr. Senyo Opong is the Engineering Manager for Heat, Mass & Momentum Transfer and Reaction Engineering & Thermodynamics groups in the DuPont Engineering Research and Technology organization. These core chemical engineering groups in DuPont provide consulting services ranging from R&D support, process design and commercialization and process troubleshooting to DuPont businesses. Dr. Opong is also currently the Engineering liaison for two DuPont businesses and the Manufacturing Technology Center of Competency and is engaged in driving stronger strategic alignment with these business partners.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Opong was the Research Manager for DuPont Building Innovations at Buffalo, NY responsible for technology strategy development and execution in partnership with Marketing and Operations focused on new aesthetics, new materials and application development and process improvements; Staffing Manager responsible for global PhD and Science recruiting; and Manufacturing Technology Manager supporting plant operations and asset productivity improvements at Fayetteville, NC.
Before moving into leadership assignments, Dr. Opong spent ten years as a Chemical Engineering Consultant providing consulting services in Mass and Heat Transfer, Process Modeling and Simulation, and nearly three years as a Field Engineer involved in Distributed Control Systems design, specification and implementation.
Dr. Opong holds a Bachelors degree with High Honors from Princeton University, and a Masters and Doctorate from the University of Delaware- all in Chemical Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Delaware.
Dr Opong was a founding member and former President of the International Society of African Scientists and a founding member and Trustee of Mawuli Fund- a nonprofit educational endowment fund for Mawuli School in Ghana. He has been the DuPont representative for GEM since 2004 and currently serves as the Executive Committee Standing Chair for Finance. Dr. Opong remains active in mentoring/coaching young engineering talent.
Dr. Opong is married with 2 kids – and enjoys reading and spending time with his family.
