Tonya Hallett is the Senior Human Resources Manager supporting the GM Asset Management / New York Treasurer’s Office, located in New York City. Prior to assuming her current role in August 2010, she was the Human Resources Manager for Opel / Vauxhall Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, in Ruesselsheim, Germany where she lived from October of 2007.
Tonya started her career at GM in 1996 in Massena, New York at the Powertrain Massena Foundry, as a Suggestion Program Coordinator. She also had some responsibilities as the 2nd & 3rd shift Personnel Representative. After leaving Massena, she held various positions with growing responsibilities in the area of Human Resources Management and Labor Relations in Ohio and Michigan. In 2004, she was selected to become the Personnel Director of the General Motors Powertrain – Baltimore Transmission Plant. During this assignment, Tonya was selected to be a member of the 2007 GM –UAW National Negotiations Committee in Detroit, MI. To round-out Tonya’s professional experience, she has worked for Pepsi Bottling Group, as the Human Resources Manager for the Portland, Oregon Market Unit. In addition, Tonya has had internship experiences with American Express Bank, Ingersoll-Rand, & the U.S. Department of Labor.
Tonya’s career has afforded her opportunities to lead and work in various types of work environments with many different people. She has been involved in various levels of union negotiations with the United Automobile Workers, she has taught and led a cross-functional team to success with a team-concept manufacturing strategy and she has supported restructuring activities with a major beverage producer.
Tonya received a Bachelor's of Science in Industrial & Labor Relations from Cornell University and a Master’s Degree in Manufacturing Management from Kettering University.
Tonya is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM); GM - Cornell University Relations Recruiting Team; Cornell Alumni Association Network; Board Member of National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc. (GEM);
Tonya is from New York City and currently lives in New Jersey, is married, and has 3 sons.
