Dr. Reates Curry

alum_curryDr. Curry has been at Ford Motor Company since 1995 working with the Driving Simulator Team.  Her expertise is in the area of human-machine/computer interaction with an emphasis on developing metrics for safe and efficient in-vehicle technology design and testing of human-machine interfaces (HMIs).

Dr. Curry has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a Master's in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University where she did her research in the area of Machine Vision.  She received the GEM Fellowship with NASA Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, OH as her sponsoring company in 1985.  During her second summer at NASA, she met her husband, Alec Gallimore, who was also a GEM Fellow.  After completing her master's degree, she went on to work for the MITRE Company in McLean, VA (also a GEM Employer) for two years before heading off to pursue her PhD.  After completing her PhD, Dr. Curry joined her husband in Ann Arbor, MI and began working for Ford Motor Company.

Dr. Curry's tenure at the Ford Motor Company has included receiving the prestigious Henry Ford Technology Award.  She also enjoys mentoring and participating in student outreach programs such as Ford's High School Science and Technology Program (HSSTP), Sigma Xi, and the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP).  Prior to joining Ford, Dr. Curry was also a 1989 Black Engineer of the Year Award recipient.  In her spare time Dr. Curry enjoys running, traveling, tent camping, hiking, reading, being creative, and spending time with family. She resides in Ann Arbor, MI with her husband and two young children.
