GEM Fellowship Application

The National GEM Consortium 1800 K Street NW, Suite 900 Washington, DC 20006 Fax: 202-207-3518 1. Official Transcript(s) - At time of application you will be asked to upload unofficial transcript(s). However, to complete your application, you will be required to submit official transcripts by November 15th. Request official transcripts be sent to the GEM Office from all universities and colleges attended. This includes a copy of current transcripts reflecting your most recent grades. Grade reports and monitor screen printouts are not acceptable as official transcripts. 2. Statement of Purpose - You must submit a one page statement of purpose that outlines your academic, research and/or career goals. 3. GRE Scores - Please send a copy of your official GRE report to the GEM Office. You can also list GEM code 1305 to have your scores sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to GEM. Remember, GEM applicants are required to apply to at least 3 GEM Member Universities. GEM wants to ensure that you have all necessary requirements to meet all 3 University's application requirements. 4. Letters of Recommendation - Request three letters of recommendation and ensure that you have entered in your recommender's email addresses by November 15. Please make sure at least one recommendation is from a faculty member. When you hit "submit" on your on-line application your recommenders will receive an automatic email from the GEM application system. Paper recommendation forms are no longer available. All recommenders must submit their recommendations on-line. It is your responsibility to ensure that GEM receives all supporting documentation, at GEM's National Office in Washington D.C., no later than 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on November 15. Online Privacy and Security All of the personal information that you supply to us is kept confidential and secure and will not be used in ways to which you have not consented. GEM's on-line application has been built to ensure your personal data is protected. To apply to GEM through the mail, using the print application form, click here. Application Instructions and Requirements 1. Applications, transcripts, statement of purpose, GRE scores, and three letters of recommendation must be received in the GEM Office no later than November 15. Materials received after November 15 will not be considered and will be securely discarded. 2. If the applicant is a senior or baccalaureate recipient, the applicant must apply to at least three (3) GEM member graduate institutions in addition to completing the GEM Fellowship application. Applications to graduate school must be received prior to the published deadlines established by each university. Note - some deadlines may be as early as October. Do not delay in applying to graduate schools. 3. Applicant must be a United States citizen at the time the application is submitted. Permanent residents are currently under consideration for applicant eligibility. Non-U.S. citizens are not eligible. 4. Applicant must be an engineering, computer science, mathematics or applied science (i.e., chemistry, physics, geoscience) major/bacculaureate degree holder. 5. 7. M.S. engineering fellows are required to intern for a GEM Employer Member the summer immediately following selection up until the M.S. requirements are completed. Ph.D. fellows are required to intern once for a GEM Employer Member the summer immediately following selection. Applicants who are unable to intern are highly unlikely to be selected for the GEM Fellowship. 8. A minimum of an unofficial transcript reflecting your most recent grades from your current school, or most recent school in the case of a baccalaureate recipient, must be submitted at time of application. Copies of transcripts must be legible and reproducible. Official transcripts from all schools attended after high school must be submitted by November 15th. 9. Graduate Record Examination scores are required. Request results be sent using GRE code 1305. The GRE scores do not have to be submitted at the time of applying to the GEM Fellowship, however they are required before the fellowship is granted. 10. Knowingly providing false information may result in termination of the GEM fellowship. |
