GEM ANNUAL BOARD MEETINGThe purpose of the GEM Annual Board Meeting is to gather its institutional members: Top technology companies, national laboratories and our nation’s leading Universities, on the business of the Consortium to ensure the nation’s highly qualified under-represented engineering and science students have the opportunity, access and financial assistance to attend graduate school in a STEM field. GEM consists of over 100 universities and 55 employers as institutional members, over 3,000 alumni, 300 Fellows, and we attract over 1,000 applicants every year. The GEM Annual Board meeting typically attracts 150-200 people each year. We complement the annual board meeting with constituent workshops, student development programs and competitions, as well as an opportunity for GEM alumni to network with our member partners. The small, yet strategic size, allows GEM to focus on developing our mission, as well as showcase the nation’s top under-represented STEM research talent. The 2010 GEM Annual Board Meeting will include significant strategic items for membership vote, including but not limited to, the 2010-2012 GEM National President and for the first time in GEM’s 34 year history a vote to substantially change the GEM Fellowship model.
