Grasso, PetersonThis year marks the 35th Anniversary of the National GEM Consortium. We will celebrate this milestone with a 35th Anniversary Fundraising Gala featuring nationally recognized celebrity hosts and entertainment on August 3-5, 2011. GEM's President, Alfred Grasso will host a CEO Roundtable, and Georgia Tech's President, Dr. Bud Peterson will convene a University President Roundtable.

If you are interested in inviting your CEO/President/Chancellor to participate in these signature events and/or you wish to advocate for your institution to contribute to GEM's fundraising campaign by sponsoring an event, please send an email to info@gemfellowship.org or call 703-562-3646.

GEM Alumni, Norman Fortenberry Appointed Executive Director of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE)

FortenberryDr. Norman Fortenberry, a longtime leader in education scholarship, who has held senior positions at the National Science Foundation and National Academy of Engineering, has been appointed Executive Director of the American Society for Engineering Education.

The appointment, which takes effect May 1, 2011, was announced today by Dr. Renata Engel, President of ASEE, following a nationwide search.

"Dr. Fortenberry is a respected national leader in engineering education. We look forward to the application of his talents and energy to facilitating the efforts of faculty, administrators, employers, and other stakeholders to advancing excellence in all aspects of engineering and engineering technology education," Engel said.

GEM Alumni, Stephanie G. Adams, named Viriginia Tech's new head of engineering education

AdamsStephanie Adams, currently an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University, will join Virginia Tech's College of Engineering on August 10, 2011, as the new head of its engineering education department.

"Dr. Adams is a highly accomplished scholar and administrator in the world of engineering education. I am extremely confident about the future of our engineering education department under Dr. Adams' proven leadership," said Richard C. Benson, dean of Virginia Tech's College of Engineering.

“I am thrilled about this opportunity. I look forward to working with the faculty, staff, and students to increase the visibility and reputation of the department nationally and internationally..."

NinratIn the Spotlight provides an opportunity for Intel Scholars to meet, share experiences and establish connections with fellow technical students around the world. This month meet Ninrat.

Ninrat is a first year PhD student studying Electrical Engineering at Tufts University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Masters degree in Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University. Ninrat is a GEM scholar and previous intern at the Intel Hudson site.
