Second Quarter Executive Committee Meeting - sponsored by ETS

GEM's second quarter executive committee meeting was held on the campus of the Educational Testing Service in Princeton New Jersey on April 2, 2008. Several initiatives were discussed to present to our institutional members for voting at the annual board meeting September 24, 2008. These initiatives include, but not limited to, changing application eligibility to include permanent residents, adding new funding models, and increasing the employer membership fee. Please check your e-mail in August 2008 for full referendums to review to prepare to vote in September at the annual board meeting in D.C.

Two participants at the GEM Executive Committee were also honored at the meeting.

GEM is Everywhere: New Mexico, Pennsylvania, D.C., Florida, New York, Ohio, Texas and on to California!

GEM has been busy during the first quarter of this year conducting outreach to students and encouraging them to pursue a graduate education.

Our recruiting team conducted GRAD Labs (Getting Ready for Advance Degree Laboratory) and Informational Sessions all throughout the country. We are making sure to visit as many universities and underrepresented STEM conferences informing students about the opportunities and benefits in obtaining a graduate degree.

Alumni Donations Update-
We Have Reached 30 Percent: We Need Your Help To Get To 100 Percent

Donate to GEM!We have raised a little over $8,000 to date but we can't meet our goal without your help. You can make a difference in the life of a potential GEM Fellow whom is seeking funding to obtain a graduate degree. GEM has contributed to the academic success of over 3,000 GEM Fellows through the years and to meet the challenge of increasing our annual fellowships awarded we are asking you to help us. We currently give 150 fellowships annually and our goal is to increase that number within the next five years to 400.

Thanks to alumni gifts to the GEM Fellowship Fund, students have access to experiences they wouldn't have otherwise and ensuring that they become successful engineers and scientists.

The GEM alumni association asks that you make your gift right away. Please keep the hope of underrepresented highly talented students in STEM education alive by giving today.
