The National GEM Consortium cordially invites you to participate in our lunch and learn summer Future Faculty Professional Symposium webinar series.  This on-line symposium is specifically designed for current minority engineering and science graduate students.  One subject will be repeated twice daily:

About FFP
The Future Faculty Professional Symposium series will provide you with an opportunity to build community and collegiality with peers at other institutions that will continue through graduate school and beyond.

The series will introduce those in the midst of course work as well as those in the later stages of the graduate school journey to faculty members and industry professionals who will share their expertise and personal perspectives on the wide spectrum of the graduate school experience and the transition into careers.  

Topics By Day
Each topic will be held twice, 12:00 noon to 1:30pm EST and 3:00pm to 4:30pm EST. Participants can call in at either time.

Monday, July 27, 2009 - How to Succeed in Graduate School: Understanding the Graduate School Lingo 
Ever thought everyone was talking Greek when they are talking about graduate school with terms like ABD, Post Doc, and NSF?  This session will cover the many terms of graduate school, research lab expectations and much more! 

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 - Composing Your Graduate Student Life      
Each doctoral student must create his or her own path to the Ph.D. Some are required components of the doctoral experience while others are individual choices.  

Wednesday, July 29, 2009 - The Big D: How to Write Your Dissertation and Live to Tell About It
This session offers a holistic approach to the process of writing, to minimize the uncertainty and anxiety the dissertation process.

Thursday, July 30, 2009 - Proposal Writing That Yields Results
This dynamic presentation will discuss some of the critical aspects of proposal idea generation, writing and development.
