A limited number of matching travel grants are available for GEM Associate and University Fellows to attend the National FFP Symposium at the GEM Annual Conference in August. Travel grants provide current GEM Associate and University Fellows the opportunity to take advantage of the Future Faculty and Professional Symposium, Technical Presentation Competition, and/or Poster Session. The FFP Symposium provides students with insight and strategies that support successful matriculation to completion of a graduate STEM degree.

Travel grant benefits include:

  • One (1) complimentary full registration to FFP event
  • Travel grant to cover air travel to FFP event
  • Shared accommodations (two students per room) for the entire FFP event
  • Full access to all conference events including the opening reception and dinner cruise.

The 2015 FFP Symposium, sponsored by the Motorola Solutions Foundation, will take place August 5-7 in Boston, MA. To sponsor a 2014 or 2015 GEM University or Associate GEM Fellow to attend the GEM Annual Conference:

  • The student must be a confirmed 2014 or 2015 GEM University or Associate Fellow. (GEM Full Fellows should seek sponsorship from their sponsoring GEM Employer. If funding is unavailable via the GEM Employer please see the cost to cover a full travel grant).
  • As the GEM University Representative, you must agree to provide matching funds directly to GEM of $200 to support the University or Associate Fellow’s travel expenses to the GEM Annual Conference.
  • The Fellow must be willing to register and pay for the FFP Symposium under the “Current Graduate Student – Future Faculty and Professional Symposium” registration type by July 5, 2015. The Fellow must pay the $75 registration fee at time of registration.
  • The Fellow must sign up (and participate) for/in the Technical Presentation Competition and/or the Poster Session at the time of registration.
  • The Fellow must agree to attend all events including one tour, graduate resource fair, all FFP workshops, opening reception and dinner cruise.
  • The Fellow must be available to travel on the earliest flight on Wednesday August 5th and be available to leave Boston after 5PM on Friday, August 7th.

GEM, through a grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, will pay the remaining funds to directly book the lowest cost travel option and a shared hotel room at the group hotel for Associate and University Fellows who are approved for the travel grant. The sponsored Fellow will have access to all meals provided during the conference. The Fellow will be personally responsible for any additional costs, such as additional meals/snacks, parking, and/or ground transportation. (The conference hotel is easily accessible via public transportation).

To submit your 2014 or 2015 Associate and University Fellows’ names for a travel grant, please send an email to info@gemfellowship.org by 5PM Eastern on July 5, 2015 with the following information for each student.

  • Associate or University Fellow’s Name
  • GEM Fellow Cohort (e.g., 2014 or 2015)
  • MS or PhD
  • Major and Concentration
  • GEM University
  • Expected Graduation Date
  • Departure Airport, Earliest Departure Time on August 5th (including red-eye flights)
  • Return Airport, Latest Departure Time on August 7th

A limited number of matching travel grants are available. Grants will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis.
